Fall is one of my favourite seasons of the year. The leaves are changing colour. The temperature is cooling off outside but it isn’t freezing yet. It is a time for Thanksgiving dinners and Halloween fun. Its also the season where my birthday happens to be! All that being said it is a great time to be outdoors. I love the Fall.
What is your favourite season and why?

Today at our school we are commemorating Terry Fox by participating in the annual Terry Fox Run. Terry was a person who had lost his leg to cancer when he was a younger man. While this would have devastated most people, Terry never stopped being athletic. He began to take up running and decided that he wanted to raise awareness about cancer. Terry planned to run across Canada to raise money to help find a cure for cancer. Terry would run a marathon a day until he completed his journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
At first, no one knew much about what this lone person at the side of the highway was doing running all this way. However, the story of Terry’s efforts spread and soon he had others who had taken up his cause. Thanks to Terry’s courage and determination, he was able to inspire others to donate to his cause.
Unfortunately, the cancer returned to his body and he was forced to stop his run around Thunder Bay, Ontario. He passed away not too long after that. Terry raised awareness of cancer and he taught us that everyone can make a difference in the fight against this disease. Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope was able to raise millions of dollars. He is a true Canadian hero.

School Uniforms: Could they be coming to a school near you? September 23, 2008

There has been tons of debate about the use of school uniforms in our schools. Parents and students are quite divided on the subject and I wanted to know how you feel about uniforms in school. Now just so you know I am going to link you to this article to read about the subject. Post your comments to this post.
As for my feelings, I think they couldn’t hurt or hinder a student. I know that students will no longer have the status issues that are attached to fashion in school. No longer will a student be singled out because of what they wear to school. Also, it sets the tone for work and learning at school. This is no different than any other work setting when our students have careers of their own.
However, that is as David Warlick says “my 2 ¢ worth”, I am more interested in hearing about yours. By the way hear are some articles you can read on the subject:

Remember I am interested in your opinion. Please read the articles as they will give you some insight into the debate!

All right people, the jury is out and writing research notes for your reports is proving difficult for the class. That being said you will have a new assignment related to famous people of the renaissance. Check out the instructions for your work in the Mr. Winik’s Weekly Work link located on the right hand side of the page. You will find the assignment under social studies.

Don’t you just love it when computers decide to stop working? Maybe I should add this to my list of beefs as well. Anyways, I think I have everything up and running now in terms of usernames and passwords for blogs. Come and see me if you don’t have one yet.

Hey everyone I hope you have had a great weekend and found some time to fit in school work (Hint. Hint.) Today’s writing topic is what’s your beef? I would like you to write about what are your pet peeves. These are the things your don’t like to do or see or eat or touch.
I would like to see everyone write 2-3 paragraphs about 4-6 sentences each. If you want you can add a picture to show off some of the things you don’t like.
Don’ forget that in addition to writing your posts for your blog, you must write and respond to each others blogs in our class.
Another welcome message! September 12, 2008
